The Camp Kokosing Library as it looked in September 2019. Still usable and with a solid foundation and chimney, but needing a new roof, repairs & refinishing, new windows & door, new electrical system, new furniture, & brush cutback.
Our goal is to ensure the Library's continued existence & use!
This wonderful aerial view of Camp Kokosing was taken in 1966. The Memorial Library was 5 years old then. You can see
the Library in the right-hand portion of this picture, sitting by itself and facing the Lake, with one tree behind it.
Camp Akeela now inhabits the Kokosing property. Check out their website:
This was the official patch for Camp Kokosing many years ago. A little moth-eaten but now framed and preserved under glass!
"Kokosing" means "little white owl" supposedly in a Native American language. The word derives from the Delaware language word, Gokhos, which means “owl.” Kokosing means “Where there are Owls” or “Place of Owls.” The area of the Kokosing River (Ohio) is documented to have been “alive with owls” in the 18th century. A Native American village named Gokhosing was also located on the river in the 1770s.
